Background

As yet, the stakeholders that show their concern with waste management have worked individually at their own paces, and level of community's awareness have been excessively low. Therefore, coordination and integration of more strategic nature are needed to enable numerous stakeholders to coordinate with each other and nurture bigger common strength. To realize this, a network is needed to communicate needs and interest of various parties, and to provide a means for each party to contribute and develop synergism to speed up reaching of the common objectives of water supply and sanitation networking (AMPL).

AMPL Indonesia (Watsan Networking - Indonesia) was formed on 8^th October 2007, by approximately 40 pragnizations that comprise goverments, international agencies, NGOs, relevant projects, universities, regulatory bodies and professional associations.

To facilitate members of the waste management network, a task force was formed as a part of the water supply and sanitation networking.

Name and Definition of The Task Force

• Solid Waste Management Task Force (SWM-TF) (english); Gugus Tugas Pengelolaan Sampah (GTPS) indonesia
• The task force is a means to synergize information, knowledge and communication among the waste management members of the water supply and sanitation network to allowa cooperation that benefit all parties.

Focus

Currently, activities of the task force are focused more on community-based waste management of small scale.

Vision

To synergize waste management actions and efforts to realize waste-free.

Mision

Centre of data and information related to organizations and activities of environmentally based waste management, and organizations involved therein.

• To provide the organizations with opportunity to cooperate and share information with other organizations
• To develop human resource for waste management activity
• Communication and advocacy.

Strategic Target

To improve perfomance of the waste management task force through:

1.      Intergration of data, information, knowledge and program of the waste management task force

2.      Availability of website facility as a means to access quality information for all members of the water supply and sanitation network in general and members of the waste management task force in particular

3.      To realize enhancement and empowerment of community in sustainable waste management.

Membership

Membership of the task force includes individual or group that forms parts of Indonesia water supply and sanitation network.
